There’s an underlying problem here. While we’re scoring better on the key metrics that define the growth & development of a country (GDP growth, literacy rate, employment rate, per capita income, etc.), we’re somehow hitting a wall when it comes to social, environmental & sustainable development.
One would assume that this should directly related to the education indices of a country, however, we are not witnessing that corollary. Which essentially means, our education system, while improving, is either not able address these issues or perhaps drill down the significance of it in contrast to subjects that have a more direct impact on an individual’s growth, rather than society.
Value education is the key piece of the puzzle. Wholistic development of a child which encompasses awareness & concern over environment health, responsibility towards preservation of the ecosystem and redefining the very fabric of society. Apart from standard school education, Upasana Foundation stresses upon subjects like moral science, gender equality, positive behavioural change communication, conservation, animal care, sanitation, waste management & sustainability, along with other essential knowledge that can help prepare future generations to shape a better world.
